Add a tax to a price, or take an included tax back out of a total. Type your own rate — GST, VAT or sales tax — and see the amount before tax, the tax itself and the final price. Nothing is assumed about your country.
Sales taxes like GST and VAT are a percentage of the price. There are two everyday questions, and this tool answers both.
Adding tax. A product costs 100 before tax, and the rate is 10%. The tax is 100 × 10% = 10, so the total you charge is 110.
Removing included tax. A till receipt shows 110 including 10% tax. The price before tax is 110 ÷ 1.10 = 100, and the tax part is 10. Note you do not just take 10% off 110 — that would give 99.
Adding tax starts from a price before tax and works out the tax and the total (the price you charge). Removing tax starts from a price that already includes tax and works backwards to find how much of it was tax and how much was the price before tax.
Switch to "Tax included". The amount you enter is treated as the total. The calculator divides it by one plus the rate to find the price before tax, and the difference is the tax. For example, 110 with 10% tax included is 100 before tax and 10 tax.
No. You type the rate yourself, so it works for any GST, VAT or sales-tax percentage anywhere. Real tax rules can depend on the product, exemptions and rounding, so treat this as a quick calculation, not tax advice.
Yes. Choose GST, VAT, Sales tax or just Tax. It only changes the wording; the maths is the same.
The amount before tax, the total and the price you enter are all the same, and the tax is zero.
A calculator gives you one answer. A cashbook shows you the whole picture: write down cash in and cash out, see where the money goes in charts and on a calendar, and share a ledger with your family, team or friends.
This takes a few seconds.
